Angel Wawel, Cracow

Transforming a former monastery into luxury apartments

Gleeds were appointed by Angel Poland to transform a 16th Century monastery and two chapels into Cracow's most luxurious apartment complex. Gleeds were appointed to provide cost management services for the client, who have worked with Gleeds in Cracow previously.

Consisting of approximately 230 apartments in both historic and modern styles, the development takes its name from a combination of the investor and Wawel Castle – originally home to one of the first Polish kings, which is located next to the apartments.

Worldly pleasures

Unlike the monks that once lived in the monastery, residents don’t have to abstain from life’s more enjoyable pleasures. In addition to another 6-storey block complete with 2 underground parking levels, the development also includes:

  • Shops, restaurant and landscaping
  • Bar with a cigar room and wine cellar
  • Leisure facilities including a swimming pool and gym
  • Private cinema and children’s playroom

Zen-like approach

Gleeds' awareness of the challenges associated with renovating historic buildings helped the smooth-running of the project, which was under supervision from urban conservationists.

In addition to running mini tenders during construction to procure other services such as media connections, Gleeds also provided value engineering solutions throughout the project, allowing the client to save money without compromising on quality.
